Yesterday, I went to the grocery store. The check out lady said “ How’s your day going ?”…of course I said “fine “..even though MY day really sucked! Why do we do this? Is it because we don’t want to appear vulnerable or maybe we just don’t want to open up a whole can of worms?

Today I went to the grocery store and the clerk said “How’s it going?” I said “My day really stinks”.

The clerk said ” I hope the day gets better for you”.

Damn that felt good ! lol Now you see how this works?

Digging deeper here are some issues that possibly you have been sweeping under the rug …

Hate, Abuse, LGBQT, religion, sex, Criminal behavior, Ethics/ morality, drugs/ alcohol, health, mean spiritedness, guilt, family /friends, suicide, expressions of love, mental illness, my boss etc.

Now is the day to lift that weight off your shoulders. If you want to be, YOUR BEST SELF, you need to start being truthful with others and with yourself.

    Hi this is Dan… Since I am responsible for this website I guess it’s only appropriate that I be the 1st to post on here.
    MY TRUTH is this.. I have Mental illness.
    I’m in my sixties and I have never told this to anybody.. Here’s my story :
    Like many of you, I started partying when out of high school.. Smoking pot ,drinking , psylocybin , amphetamines, quaaludes, peer pressure, etc.
    At first it was fun… But after a while I started losing my mind. I was having crazy thots.. thots that would scare the hell out of anyone. I became depressed. I started freaking out when people looked me in the eye ( even people on TV ..even my dogs! ).
    To escape my anxiety I started drinking..became addicted to Porn , was self absorbed . irresponsible . controlling , manipulative , self centered… Basically a jerk.
    I remember one time getting mad at my wife and pushing her to the floor and walking out the door. I called her “fat ”
    every other day . I whipped my dog when he was bad. I was disengaged with my kids .. I couldn’t hold a job.
    My struggle with sanity was all consuming.. Nothing else mattered.
    ” I fell on black days..
    I want to know if this could be my fate” *

    I finally started listening to psychologists and Self Help gurus on the TV and radio. I read up on psychology . I found a lot had to do with my upbringing:
    … An abusive father (and a mother that tried to sweep it all under the rug).
    ..Extreme shyness
    ..Guilt (esp. sexual)..
    .. Parents that were unsupportive of my dreams.

    After decades of misery things were finally getting better.

    THEN..a few years ago my house burnt down ..I lost my online business.. all my belongings.. my memories..everything.
    I was suicidal.. Got addicted to opiates.
    I fell on black days ..all over again.
    But thanks to doctors ,counselors , Suboxone , and my stubborn will to survive…
    I am on the road to Recovery.
    If you are Having crazy thots I emplore you to seek help. I swear to you that wishing , hoping , and praying is not going to make things better. Please talk to someone … don’t try to hide it.
    This is my truth ..I hope you find yours.

    Hey Dan,
    I got this back on the 1st and wanted to comment but didn’t quite know how to put it together without sounding preachy or pompous. So crazy that it’s the end of the month I wait to comment. I know we have shared some of the same experiences together in days gone by and had a great friendship, which, even tho we have been a long ways away from each other, I feel we are still friends. When I reflect back on my life I can see many things that I was drawn to that seemed fun and sort of fulfilling at the time but as time goes by I know they were only temporary pleasures and, like you, some really brought me down to those low dark places you referred to. However… there IS hope, and I mean that! I will just say this and explain more…. Jesus is the REAL answer. I know yer thinking, “here’s where it gets preachy”, well, sorry for ya but this is my story and I’m sticking to it. I began a relationship with Jesus when I was 7. I grew up in a Christian home as did you Dan, and yes, parents aren’t perfect, but as we found out, neither are we. Yes I believe people, our environment, etc. do affect/effect us but…. WE are the owners of ourselves and if we are to move forward and live life to the fullest we have to be responsible for our own actions. Now comes the preach part. I believe and know for a fact that my relationship with my God and Savior has been just that, my saving. I rebelled against a lot of things in my life but never could find fault with my Lord. On the contrary, He was always there, call him my conscience but it was His Spirit living in me who was and is keeping me. I am weak and do not have the power by myself to change who I am but I know He is the power and gives me the power to change. Do the dark temptations still come around? Yes. Do they have the control they used to have on me? No. Why? Only Jesus!! Dan you know me… am I different now than I was? Not really except that I know who to go to when I am weak… and we know that Gods word says “when we are weak, He is strong” and He wants us to lean on Him. Why even try to manage by ourselves… it doesn’t work. The only thing in my life that has been consistently real and true and that has worked in making “life worth the living” had been my God. And when this life on earth is over, I KNOW He will keep His promise that he gave me back when I was 7, everlasting life with Him in heaven where He has been preparing a place for me. These things I have shared are things that God has shown me through the friendship relationship that I have with Him. He has so many promises for us and blessing or good things that He wants to pour out on our life. And no, He doesn’t promise to take away the temptations that come our way or to make life all rosey, BUT, he DOES promise to be with us and give us what we need to get through it, whatever it is. I hope and pray that my life and words are a reflection of the peace and joy that only God can give and that someone hearing might be moved to want this fantastic relationship with our loving Savior who created us and made a way to redeem us, rescue us, and give us life forever. Amen. I’m done preaching now. Lol. Love you Dan!

    Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids.
